Badminton – one of the fastest court games
The sport of Badminton traces its origins back to the 18th century and was introduced into the UK in the mid 1800′s. It was accepted as an Olympic Sport in 1992.
It requires a high degree of skill and speed rather then pure strength. Badminton is a sport suitable for all ages and abilities, that can be played either indoors or outdoors. The game is played using a racquet by one or two players on each team and is played by hitting a shuttlecock across a net that is 1.55m high.
Outdoor Badminton courts can be built on concrete of asphalt and finished with Dulux Tru-Flex slip resistant acrylic sports paint or Dulux Tru-Flex Cushion surfaces. Outdoor courts may also use synthetic grass. Any of these options can be incorporated into a multipurpose court.
Indoor Badminton courts are often built on timber floors, however acrylics, rubber cushion, synthetic grass or Polyurethane maybe used.
The play area for a doubles Badminton court is 13.4 metres by 6.1 metres. The safe run off areas are 2 metres on the back lines and 1.5 metres on the side lines. this gives an overall minimum size of 17.4 metres by 9.1 metres or 158.34 square metres. Run off areas change where multiple courts are installed and with different competition standards.
Indoor Badminton courts require high ceilings with 7.5 metres to 9 metres being recommended.
